Amazing Benefits of Cloth Diapers 101 – And The Brand I Recommend

There are many great benefits of cloth diapers. Cloth diapers are not only economical, but they are also a huge money saver. I want to first preface by saying that I never planned to be a cloth-diapering mom. I had this preconceived notion that they would be difficult to clean and that I didn’t want to throw a dirty diaper in my washing machine. I also didn’t know (at the time) how expensive disposable diapers were until I became a mom and learned about the benefits of cloth diapers.

When the pandemic first hit in March 2020, my husband suggested ordering cloth diapers because of the shortage at grocery stores. I remember how the shelves were running bare at the stores while people were frantically purchasing what was leftover in preparation for staying at home.

Once we began using cloth diapers on our girls, I started taking a liking to them. The cleanup was much easier than I anticipated. They also seem to be comfortable for them.

The Cloth Diaper Brand We Use

We use BeCeBe Cloth Diapers. The brand is designed by a mom whose mission is to create sustainable and eco-friendly products including diapers, blankets, and other products. The diapers are easily adjustable for a growing baby or toddler, up to 35 lbs.

Their All-in-2 Dual Pocket Diaper is the traditional cloth diaper. They also have an Extra Roomy Diaper Cover option to prevent leaks during overnight cloth diapering. This diaper can also be used as a swim cover.

What Do You Need to Buy for Cloth Diapering?

The essentials for cloth diapering are the Shell and the Inserts. There are different types of cloth diapers available, but BeCeBe makes it easy with their All-in-2 Dual Pocket Diaper. The all-in-2 has a spot for the insert to snap into, allowing for the shell to be used multiple times. This makes it easy when you’re out and about. You only need to switch out the insert when changing the baby, instead of using a whole new diaper.

Storing Cloth Diapers

Wet bags are a great way to store dirty cloth diapers. BeCeBe has both small and large sizes. The small size is great for taking with you when your family is out and about. It also has a hanging feature, so you can hang it on your stroller. The large size is perfect for storing multiple dirty cloth diapers at home before you transfer them to the washing machine. The wet bag is machine washable.

Cleaning Cloth Diapers

By the time we first started cloth diapering our first daughter, she was already over a year old. At this point, her stools were more solid since she was eating solid foods. When my daughter would dirty her diaper, it was easy to clean. We would empty the stool into the toilet and gently rinse the diaper before putting it into the washing machine. We also used a wet bag (as mentioned before) that was separate from her hamper to contain wet diapers before putting them into the washing machine.

We have continued using cloth diapers with our second daughter. Once again, we waited until her stools were solid. This is just our preference for easy cleaning. However, you can start cloth diapering at any time.

What are the Benefits of Cloth Diapers?

According to BeCeBe Cloth, the average child goes through 5,000 diapers before they are out of them. This equates to 500 years to degrade from landfills and increases damage from carbon dioxide by 25 times. Parents spend $3,600 for diapers on average per child. Switching to cloth diapering is not only great for the environment, but also for parents’ pockets. If you have read my post on  Ways to be a Thrifty Shopper, you know that saving money is important to me. The amount of money saved by switching from disposable diapers has been a great benefit of cloth diapers in my house.

Disclosure – I was gifted some products from BeCeBe Cloth to share about the benefits of cloth diapers in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own. I only recommend products that I personally use and trust. Thank you for reading my blog.

  1. I appreciate the data regarding the economic as well as environmental impact for “regular” diapers! Even with the initial startup cost – it seems as though something that I need to look into…

  2. I wish this was available when I had my boys. Seems so easy, cost saving, and great for environment. Win, win, win!!!!

  3. I always wanted to try cloth diapering. I heard they also potty trained earlier with cloth diapers. Which is a total plus when trying to save on the expenses of diapers lol. But I always chickened out! You make it sounds so easy! And it’s definitely a win for the environment!

  4. I used cloth diapers for all my babies until the last got older. At that point, the diapers were worn out and I couldn’t justify the expense for the short time he would still be in them.
